The castaways continue walking, pushing away branches and looking up at the bamboo stalks before the camera settles on a woman But I got the heart to win, and I'm ready to fully take on this experience and go for the gold!” “I am a zookeeper at the San Diego Zoo! I miss my animals and my family, of course, but it's so beautiful out here, I'm so ready for this! I may not be the smartest guy, definitely not the most athletic guy, surely not the guy you'll see going out very much. Various castaways are shown close up, varying in gender, age, ethnicity, race, and outfit style, with the camera finally settling on a middle aged man with red hair, who is rather overweight, trying to catch up with the others around him. Jeff: These 20 Survivors come from different walks of life. The 20 castaways begin following the men as they must go offroad The other man (in a thick accent): FOLLOW ME! THIS WAY! FOLLOW ME! Man (in Chinese, subtitled, to another man): Come on! Show them this way. They will be in a quiet section of China where prehistoric bones have been discovered well-preserved after thousands of years of being little to no contact with the surrounding lands. Jeff: These Survivors are now being led through the forest where they will be spending the next 39 days, away from the modern and busy cities that surround these ancient lands. The 20 Survivors are now shown to be on a large vehicle driving through a road that is surrounded on both sides by large bamboo stalks Many shots are then displayed of these forests. The skyscrapers immediately fade into tall bamboo stalks as the music begins to sound traditional.

Jeff: These 20 Americans will be travelling over 230 kms away to an area that has been largely unchanged throughout China’s history: the Shunan bamboo forests. The group is clearly American, mostly wearing athletic wear, with a few in suits or casual dresses, but the group stands out in the busy crowd that surrounds them. The camera goes to the top of the Chongqing World Financial Center, towering over the city, before quickly panning down to the group Jeff is talking about. Jeff: And here in front of the Chongqing World Financial Center, the tallest building in the city, 20 Americans are beginning the adventure of a lifetime. While the previous groups were all local Chongqing residents, Jeff continues as this new group of people are introduced to the camera. Typical sounds of city life are heard playing: car horns honking, construction, people talking shots of busy streets with people walking are shown before a different group of people come into view. It is an important economic center, a city of innovation and modernization, with skyscrapers towering over the busy streets. Jeff (continuing): It is the 14th largest city in the world with a population of almost 15 million people. A shot of a large city is as the music swells.
